Joshua Alexander Loss (22 June 1909 – 6 June 1990). Violinist and leader of the Joe Loss Orchestra, one of the most successful acts of the Big Band era in the 1940s. Released many singles during the 50s and 60s, like "March Of The Mods". Also had his own show on BBC Light.

“Los Beatles Españoles”, formed in Barcelona 1959.
They made their first record in 1962.
In 1966, they were voted most popular group,
before Los Bravos and Los Brincos.
"La leyenda de Xanadú" was their 21st and last EP.

The group split in the early 70s, but reformed
at the end of the 80s, and is still going strong.

German bandleader born 27 May 1937 in Hamburg.

One of those producers of Non-Stop Dancing albums
that were so popular in Germany since 1965.

The Beat Kings - LP England’s Top 14 Of Pop Folge 23 (Germany: Pop Schallplatten ZS 10.223) 5/68 ?

 

The Pop Schallplatten label released 29 budget albums of current hits covers between 1964 and 1969. The series was first called "Original Beat aus England" and became "England's Top 14 Of Pop" in 1967 with Issue 18.

These Various Artists LP's were actually performed by unknown studio musicians, recorded in Germany.

From "Beat aus England #12" in mid-66 until this album, the hits of Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich were covered by a group usually labelled as "The Beat Kings".

The series featured "Hold Tight" (#12), "Hideaway" (#13), "Bend It" (#14), "Save Me" (#15 as by The Four Kings), "Touch Me, Touch Me" (#17 as by The Four Kings), "Okay" (#18) and "The Legend Of Zanadu" (#23) - leaving out only "Zabadak".

This was the last time the series included a cover of Dave Dee & Co. Note the title is "Zanadu" and not "Xanadu".

he was one of the most popular
singers in Yugoslavia in the 60s.

The country had one eye on Eastern
Europe, and one on the West,
covering hits from England,
France (Adamo, Monty) or Italy.

This disc includes covers of Engelbert
and Love Affair's "Everlasting Love".

Os Incriveis [See "Hideaway" entry] started out as "The Clevers" in São Paulo, Brazil in 1962. In 1966, the group split in two with some of them forming "The New Clevers". The name was soon shortened to "The Clevers".

Lafayette Coelho Vargas Limp was a Hammond organ player
who released Instrumental "Party" albums with his band
at a rate of about two a year through the 60s.

His first LP « Apresenta os sucessos » came out in 1966,
followed by thirty-odd more until the 80s.

 


The Kai Warner Singers - Various Artists LP Stereo 99 (Germany: Polydor 2485 001) [Instrumental]













Werner Last (27 October 1926-9 July 1982)
was the brother of drummer Robert Last
and Hans, better known as "James Last".
He started his own orchestra in the mid-sixties.

"Stereo 99" is a Various Artists Album with
Kai Warner contributing two tracks.

French cover: Les Bel-Air - Je n'entrerai pas ce soir / La légende de Xanadu (Canada: Bel Air BA 104) 5/05/69

A group from Montréal, Québec (Canada), which was founded in 1962. Singing Merseybeat in French, they consisted of Eddy "André" Roy (vocals/guitar), André Rhéaume (guitar), Bernard Vallée (bass), and Jean Allen (drums) replaced in 1968 by Benoît Guimont.
Their big break came in 1965 on Quebec radio, and they had their first hit with “Tant de choses à dire” (Time Is On My Side). They later leaned towards Country & Western, having hits with “Marchant dans la plaine” in 1967 and most successful was “Cupidon” in 1969 (Little Arrows). The group split in Summer 1970.
They covered one Dave Dee & Co track in 1969: "La légende de Xanadu".
And "Mille danses" is the French version of "Land Of 1000 Dances" which Dave Dee & Co were singing live on stage in 1966/67.
